Interpreters in Brussels Practice Group
Who are we?
Interpreters in Brussels Practice Group is a practice community for professional conference interpreters who hold a master’s in conference interpreting or have equivalent experience. Our membership encompasses staff interpreters working for international institutions such as NATO, EU accredited freelance conference interpreters, private market freelancers, and recent graduates taking their first steps in the profession.
We meet up regularly to hone our simultaneous and consecutive skills. As this is a non-profit community, we rely on our members volunteering to prepare adequate speeches for interpreting practice. Members taking part in a session will typically pair up to interpret one of the speeches and provide feedback on their peer’s interpretation of a different speech. We provide our members with a feedback sheet and encourage them to set goals for each practice.
IBPG is a platform where you can develop your professional skills but can in no way replace formal training. This is why we verify the backgrounds of our applicants to ensure that IBPG remains a highly professional, yet friendly environment. IBPG is a long-standing practice community dating back to 2013. The sessions are held twice a month on Wednesdays in a hybrid format to nurture both our Brussels-based as well as our newly found online community.
